I’ve been documenting the progress of my friend Matt and the restoration of his VW notchback for the last couple of years now and during this period my interest in all things VW has grown. A couple of weeks back Matt invited me to a small local show and so I came down with a couple of cameras to see what was going on.

What I love about these cars and the culture is how much care and attention is taken towards them, it seems each car has its own story which develops and goes in different directions through the changing of hands.

Matts Notchback previous to his ownership had been rusting away under a makeshift shelter for 17 years, he is unsure where it originates from but can assume its europe due to the left hand drive. I’ve witnessed his struggle over the last 3 years to bring it back to life, rebuilding the engine (which set on fire when turning it over for the first time) stripping the previous paint job by hand and making all the alterations he had in mind. I really enjoy the pride he has over it now that he has brought it back to life.
